A Beginner's Guide to Identifying

Werewolves at Work

by Andrew Kinh

Have you been noticing strange behavior at work? Does it seem like eyes are watching your every move? It’s true; you are prey. Werewolves have your scent, and they crave the chance to pounce.

It starts by getting rid of those who would cause trouble. They are reorganized out of the job, offered impossible options, and you never hear from them again. True, you might see an occasional post from them on Facebook or even meet them out in town. Don’t be fooled by these doppelgangers.  Your friend was the guest of honor at the last executive luncheon.

Yet, you still have a chance. This briefing identifies the current known types of werewolves you’ll encounter at work. Pay careful attention to the lower ranks. Hungry for power and thirsty for blood, they offer no compunction when it comes to death. But, if you are alert and trust your instincts, you may survive your dog-eat-dog workplace.

The Bully Boss

Rank: Omega

Appearance:

Weakest of the pack, they are usually short, fat or both. They measure less than six feet tall but can still overpower most humans, mostly because of sheer mass alone. Taller Omegas usually have an intellectual handicap preventing them from moving up in the pack or starting their own pack. Despite their sometimes lacking physical fitness, they always have a clean-cut look.

Behavior:

Often eager to please and claim credit for the kill, the Bully Boss patrols the cubicles in search of inattentive prey. He often hounds the outer cubicles, popping over partitions in hopes of catching you by surprise. Be especially alert for his sneak attack. The hot breath on the back of your neck means he’s right behind you. Turn around only if you can match his predatory glare. The small ones are most hungry. The more they catch, the faster they promote.

The Hatchet Man

Rank: Beta

Appearance:

Either selected at birth or promoted from the Omegas, Betas always have a fit look in human form. They move with speed and precision wherever they’re going and can either be tall or short, but never fat or sloppy in appearance. Their clothing often complements their natural characteristics, portraying an overall sharply dressed look.

Behavior:

He is the special weapon of the pack, selected for his ability to spot choice prey. Where the Bully Boss uses blunt force, the Hatchet Man uses sharpened steel. An eloquent speaker but often concise, this one wastes no energy in getting the message out or the job done. No one sees his attacks. Your best option is to run to safer ground.

The Elite

Rank: Alpha

Appearance:

Elites are difficult to spot. Age has honed their ability to hide in plain sight. As executive-level werewolves, they tend towards the finest dress, wearing traditional business attire, boardroom dress or other executive dress. Their physical characteristics can be summed up in one word—built. Chiseled to perfection, their bodies show not an ounce of fat. A fact they often hide through expensive dress.

Behavior:

Alphas sit separate from everyone else, always watchful of the herd. Their manner is often courteous if not friendly. You could even mistake her for a friend, and that’s how they get you--by holding their prey closest to them. Their exuberant behavior exists to hide their ruthless character. Those smiles have teeth.

The Lone Wolf

Rank: Outcast

Little is known about Lone Wolves as they often die soon after being banished by their packs or have gone deep into hiding. Werewolves lived as solitary hunters for countless generations until they were driven to near extinction. Surviving Lone Wolves are masters of disguise, even able to escape detection by other wolves. They are true specimens of werewolves in their natural form, strong and independent.

What drove them into exile? One can only speculate. Weaker and older pack members are often driven from packs, but they never survive to be Lone Wolves, often killed by other packs of hunted by enemies of werewolves. One thing’s for sure, the Lone Wolves are either your best friend or your worst enemy.

The wolf packs roam everywhere. You can often find several packs sharing the same building or even floor. As long as there are enough people to feed their appetite, they can share even the smallest spaces, often one or two window offices away. Humanity’s best hope is to turn werewolves  on each other.
