Vampire Fest Partners with Phoenix of New Orleans
Continuing the Mission of Supporting the Local Community
Pasadena, Calif. June 29, 2009 - Partnering with PNOLA- Local Rebuild Charity
The Vampire Film Series and Festival a.k.a Vampire Fest will come home to New Orleans October 2009. Since part of our mission is to join in the effort to rebuild this beautiful city, Vampire Fest is proud to announce that we are partnering with Phoenix Of New Orleans (PNOLA).
PNOLA is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting the recover of the residents of the Lower Mid-City neighborhood of New Orleans by providing direct assistance as well as developing community assets that ensure a vital neighborhood. Vampire Fest will create events during the festival that will directly benefit PNOLA. More about PNOLA at www.pnola.org.
Rachel Massey, volunteer coordinator of Phoenix of New Orleans and an active member of the Vampire Fest team, recently said, “One of the biggest challenges facing local recovery non-profits today is dispelling this misguided notion that New Orleans has been rebuilt. It's been more than three years since the storm, but there is still a lot of work to be done, only now with even fewer resources. The Phoenix of New Orleans is constantly seeking donations from individuals, businesses, organizations, and foundations through fundraisers and solicitation to supplement the federated funds we receive from the United Way of Greater New Orleans. Currently, PNOLA does not receive membership dues or government funding.”
On June 17, 2009, PNOLA completed the restoration of Ms. Hilda Frank’s Hollygroove house. After living in a FEMA trailer since 2005 and losing everything including her health, Ms. Frank finally came home because of PNOLA.
Vampire Fest continues to receive submissions from filmmakers throughout the globe, proving the lure of the vampire is global. We are proud to declare 2009 the Year of the International Vampire. Since the legend of the werewolf and other supernatural creatures are interconnected with that of the vampire, Vampire Fest also accepts films of the gothic, zombie and werewolf, witch or ghost genre.
